Meet Morven Stewart: DMFF 2026 Artist in Residence
Artist and adventurer Morven Stewart finds inspiration in the ever-changing landscapes of Scotland
From windswept mountain summits to wild Atlantic shores, Morven captures the rugged beauty of the wild landscape around her. And this November you can discover her spell-binding work as Dundee Mountain Film Festival’s Artist in Residence 2026.
Morven describes herself as an artist and wanderer – and it’s easy to see why. Rather than relying solely on photographs, Morven can usually be found outdoors, painting directly from life. She packs up her tent and gets out there to immerses herself in the places she wants to capture.
Her portable art kit travels with her in her rucksack or bike panniers as she explores Scotland’s mountains, coastlines and remote landscapes. Although based at The Creative Exchange in Perth, Morven spends most of her time out in the elements, observing the natural world as it unfolds around her.
Morven’s work has received recognition through several art exhibitions and awards. In 2025, she was shortlisted for the Scottish Landscape Awards and selected for the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Watercolour Prize Exhibition. In 2026, she received the David Barker Prize from the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours.

“I find a huge amount of joy in
drawing movement. From
wild weather to dancers,
live music sessions
to swooping razorbills,
my sketchbooks are filled
with flight lines and frothing seafoam.”
